Aquasan Network B&H confirms knowledge
as a prerequisite for quality services provision

 

3rd workshop of Aquasan Network B&H of experts in water and environment protection sector with the subject “Efficient Knowledge Management for better quality of services” was held from 24th to 26th September 2013 in Bihac, NW B&H.

Aquasan Network B&H workshop was officially opened by Swiss Ambassador in B&H H.E. Mr. Andre Schaller and by Mayor of Municipality of Cazin Mr. Nermin Ogresevic.

The Ambassador emphasized the importance of linking all stakeholders in water and environmental protection sector over the entity borders, cooperation among horizontal and vertical structures and pointed out positive experiences during implementation of Project “GOV-WADE”.

Mayor Ogresevic in his address clarified that Aquasan Network B&H is an opportunity for the exchange of ideas and new initiatives and that Municipality of Cazin, as an example of successful implementation of several projects in cooperation with SDC and Una Consulting, is willing to share its experiences with wider community.

Mr. Sandi Zulic, director of Una Consulting, reflected on the issue of knowledge management. He emphasized that the focus of the 3rd Aquasan Network B&H workshop in on tacit individual knowledge that participants have and should share with others.

Although it is informal network, during its three-year operations significant results were achieved on the key stakeholder’s capacities improvement but also in exchange of existing experiences and knowledge within water and environmental protection sector in whole B&H and wider.

During three-day workshop, representatives of federal institutions shared their experiences and challenges in implementing laws, strategies, plans and projects.
Ms. Hazima Hadzovic, assistant to the Federal Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry informed the attendees on the status of sectorial regulations, developmental plans, EU integrations, ongoing and future projects.

Activities of Environmental Protection Fund of FB&H, methods of funds distribution, ongoing projects and other relevant information regarding this institution were presented by Ms. Sanja Bosiljcic-Pandur, chief of Department for Project Preparation and Monitoring.

Una Consulting project engineer, Ms. Aida Jusufhodzic, summarized the most important practical experiences and lessons learned during different project phases encountered by consultants.

The workshop was shadowed by Mr. Ahmed Buric, journalist and communications expert, who contributed to group work and plenary discussions with his suggestions.

3rd Aquasan workshop was attended by more than 70 experts from water and environmental protection sector, representatives of entity, cantonal and municipal institutions, public water and waste water utilities, and international organizations.

On the 2nd day of the workshop, the participants visited decentralized waste water system and constructed wetland for wastewater treatment in Local Community Ljubijankici in the Municipality of Cazin.
The highest interest was shown for wastewater treatment technology which uses constructed wetlands, as a rather new technology in B&H. This technology treats wastewater with plants and microorganisms while operation and maintenance costs are minimal, which is of great importance for B&H conditions.

During the workshop, the participants were informed on the active involvement of B&H representatives, including Aquasan network member, in the meeting of Water Utility Associations in Bucharest organized through Danube Water Program. The feedback information from this meeting and more information on the Program will be disseminated during the next Aquasan meeting to be held in December 2013.

At the end of the workshop participants once again confirmed the justification of networking with the purpose of exchange of experiences, knowledge and good practices, their commitment to further develop the Network and accomplish goals, and to create positive energy required for improvement of water and environmental protection sector.


Aquasan Network B&H is part of Governance Project in Water and Environmental Development “GOV-WADE” which is implemented by Resource Centre and Consultancies for Water and Environment “Una Consulting” with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in B&H, which started with the objective that experts from water and environment protection sector in B&H during joint meetings and workshops exchange their experiences and enhance their knowledge.
