Competitive Grants Window Round 2

Description of the activity

In Phase II of the Danube Water Program, IAWD called on national and regional entities in the Danube region to propose relevant and sustainable projects in the water supply and sanitation sector. All projects needed to be connected to other activities associated with improving water supply and wastewater management. IAWD’s partners were required to provide co-financing or in-kind support for the projects. The call was launched in March 2016 and activities will be finished in 2017.

Implementation of the activity

Out of 47 applications received before 9 April 2016, IAWD contracted eleven projects so far (one grant is still in negotiation). The overall quality of applications was very high, and the Danube Water Program thanks all applicants for their interest and dedication. The successful contenders are from nine different countries in the region. Some examples of supported projects include: developing a utility management training program curricula framework for the water and wastewater utility managers in the Danube Region by Shukalb in Albania, the establishment of a center for monitoring and reduction of losses by JSC Vodovod Banja Luka in BiH and the improvement of the asset management through elaboration of a new assets valuation methodology by Sofiyska Voda JSC in Bulgaria.
